Would you like that dress in VELVET

K, clown covered in "dust" and breathing heavy.....how can this be? He has Velvet...Ken and Linny came by last night to take a look at him and he looks like crap..so does my tank according to Ken...I'm leaving too much algae behind....soooooo out comes the clown, into a Q tank and treat with Copper and lots of O2 in the system, and the big tank; all the rocks out and scrubbed...all walls scrubbed...and the gravel messed right up and around so all the debris is moved out...have to do daily to get it all gone...too much crud.....re landscape and all is good. It actually looks absolutely amazing...now I realize that I was leaving too much algae behind and yup it could be part of what started the whole Velvet thing...oh yah did I mention that it is rarely ever curable easily and usually your fish die? YAH...crap. The wrasse is doing really well though...so lets hope that maybe we will end up with a couple of fish and then add to it in a couple of weeks...oh yah, UV Sterilizer to go on tonight too! UGH I guess tomorrow we will be cleaning up the 65 hex!

Is Pink in or out?

I don't know about the singer "Pink" but "Pinky" our Pseudochromis joined the Tang last night. Dead. What the hell?????? I think that the Tang must have brought a nasty parasite or something with it...nothing else has changed. That really is the only thing that changed....we added him and the Puffer...a thriving tank with tons of life and color has now got 2 fish....lets hope they don't die too.

Tangs for nothing

Our Trigger got picked up by Linny on Tuesday. He is going to a new home....causing too much trouble in the tank. Fins nipped etc and STRESS...so off he goes and then...our Tang died yesterday. Just too stressed and not right. Now, today, Pinky is looking BAD. Not himself...maybe the Tang brought something and it is now going to affect all of our fish? OH NO...this tank was soooo perfect. Now? I hope that this stops......I really was getting happy with our SW hobby. Now, it just pisses me off...I don't want this tank to have issues...it was doing too well.

A lesson learned

I was doing my regular tank maintenance today...cleaning the rock off, stirring the gravel and cleaning all the screens on the powerheads and filter. Tank looks great, off we go to town.....yah oops. Forgot to put back the screen on the powerhead and SHIT....I look into the tank when we got home and thought..."why is the powerhead barely pushing out water...and what the hell is that ball in the tank stuck to it???" To my dismay, my favorite fish "Puffy" the pufferfish was sucked to it and puffed up. And very very dead. A very sad day as I really liked him. It is a lesson learned though...never ever walk away until you have checked that everything is as it was. SUCKS though, all the same.

We may have to get rid of "J.R." too. He is munching on .... fins. The tang "Tango" has a very chewed fin, "Raymon" always has a chewed tail, "Pinky" is a bit worse for wear, and "Perky" has a chewed tail. We all know its him...he is a crank. One of the grouchier Triggerfish that we have encountered that is for sure. Will wait to hear from Ken and Linny to decide what to do...I think he will be finding a new place to live...much to my dismay.....
